One word perfectly describes Ninja Gaiden: Intense. The game throws you into the fray with a notoriously difficult tutorial level complete with a first boss more difficult than the last boss for many other games. I remember this game ending back up on store shelves after people who bought this game with gorgeous visuals found out about its steep learning curve the hard way. Not being able to get past the tutorial prevented many from really enjoying the incredibly game. The fighting system is the best of any action game, including God of War. The move set feels as fleshed out as any fighting game and the fights themselves quickly become very stylish as you learn the massive variety of maneuvers. Finishing Ninja Gaiden is extremely satisfying, leaving you with a real sense of accomplishment. Although the story is forgettable, the game itself is not. Your fingers will curse the day you picked it up, but your ego will forever thank you for finishing this challenge.
