Nier is something original that Cavia fans can appreciate, but that's about it.

User Rating: 7 | NIER PS3
Created by Cavia, the creators of Drakengard, Nier is an "okay" game. It has its flaws, but they aren't enough to keep it from being enjoyable. It's fun to play, but it's a game that you'll either adore or you'll raise your eyebrows at the few people that have fallen in love with it.

Graphics - 7/10
The graphics--on average--seem like something you might see on a the better end of the PS2 graphics. They aren't breath-takingly stunning but they don't hurt your eyes to look at either. So, if you're the average person, they'll be just fine.

Characters - 8/10
The characters could either be very memorable or just average, depending on who you are. The opinion seems to be well divided. Without being bias though, the characters truly are something unique with unique personalities. The foul-mouthed woman dressed like a "hussy," the British sarcastic talking book, the young boy who seems to cry a little too much...they're good, and they compliment each other pretty nicely in the story. They seem like a strange cast when put together, but they really do blend well.

Plot - 7/10
The plot itself is...strange. And slow. It takes about half the game for it to really take off, but when it does, it gets interesting. The story itself could be a little bit confusing, but the story itself is cleverly done. There will be a few moments that tug on your heart strings, and a few times that will make your head spin as you try to figure out what just happened with the story (it's possible to figure out, don't worry).

Gameplay - 7/10
It's mostly a hack and slash with some magic abilities thrown in. There isn't much else to it than that, and there isn't much else to describe about it. It's fun, but if you aren't into "hack and slash," then you may not like it.

Voice Acting - 9/10
On average, it's good for most characters. There's maybe one or two where it doesn't sound that great, but it's not too bad, so it can slide.

Music - 8.5/10
The music is pretty, yes, but a couple of the tracks are repeated too much. For some of these repeated tracks, it's fitting for the moment but for others, it just starts to feel a little tiring. So, it's good music that's repeated too often.

Replay value?
There are a few other endings to get, and each ending is unlocked with New Game+, which also adds on more plot and story content, so it's well worth it.

Overall? It's a good game, but not a great game. It's going to become one of those titles that those who have played it, usually really like it and those who haven't, probably never will. I have a feeling the fan base is going to stay rather small.
