New Super Mario Bros Wii is a fun, enjoyable game but lacks the magic and charm of previous installments.

User Rating: 7 | New Super Mario Bros. Wii WII
When you hear the words Super Mario you immediately think of greatness and its not hard to see why. Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, each Mario title always brings something new and fresh to the table. Unfortunately New Super Mario Bros Wii feels lacking in comparison and while the game offers new multiplayer features, the game is simply a retread of previous ideas used in earlier Mario titles. So why have I given it such a generous 8.0? Well simply put: its a lot of fun. NSMBW still offers the same addictive gameplay that has made the series so popular and with the added multiplayer you can now play with your friends as you journey to save the princess once again. The levels are still fun and enjoyable to play through and stomping Goombas or throwing Koopa shells still feels as satisfying as ever, just like you remember in older titles. Which is also probably one of NSMBW's problems because it sticks so close to the original games template that it can never truly branch out and become its own game. Some levels offer new gameplay features such as the use of mist, while other levels such as the airship ones feel straight out of SMB3 but given a new lick of paint. The worlds themselves are straight out of the DS NSMB offering the same environments but providing different level designs. The game is graphically better then its DS sibling but its not pushing the graphical limits of the Wii, instead offering a very clean, simple looking game. NSMBW is a very fun game with plenty to do and is a good laugh with family or friends but the games lack of innovation and its own identity may make it the first Mario game to not deserve the title of Super.
