A decent game yet the same old formula. Limited amount of cars to choose from. Crappy graphics, sub-par story, ok music

User Rating: 7.5 | Need for Speed Undercover PSP
Need for speed undercover is a game that has all the perks, it just does not implement them properly. As a long time fan of the series I have picked up this game with excitement only to be left slightly disappointed. The game starts out with you being hired as a driver, delving deep undercover in the street racing scene. The PSP version differs slightly being that first there is no open world roaming and next you get to purchase your first car [ Undercover on other platforms starts you out with a Nissan.] After you earn cash you can level up your cars engine, chassis, nitro, etc. and [after you are able to unlock them] there are a limited amount of cars to choose from: muscle-Mustang, Firebird or tuning- Mazada RX-8, Nissan 370z to exotics such as the Lotus Elise, Aston Martin DB9.
Like other NFS games you have to win first place in every event to earn your rep as a streetracer and score bounty points. There are the usual racing types - circuit, Knockout, sprint, checkpoint challenge, etc. but some added new features such as cop elimination, and now you get to be a cop and take down the street racers. There are also missions where you have to deliver stolen cars to certain areas. This does spice up the game and it is enjoyable to play, yet undercover still does not raise the bar for the series itself- it basically is the same as the others [except for the story, new race types, and the leveling up for cars after the end of a successful race.]
The graphics in this game are a bit rough and jagged. The levels could use more varying as after a while it looks all the same.
The sound in Undecover is pretty good [recommend headphones tho'] and there are decent soundtracks.
In conclusion I enjoyed this game and recommended it to both NFS fans and others who are looking for street racing challenges. Although this game did leave me feeling a bit disappointed as there are better racing titles out there [check out Burnout legends, most wanted, carbon] it is worth renting first and then deciding for yourself if it's the racing game you want.
