Ambitious driving game making open world accesible for everyone and fun to play

User Rating: 8.5 | Need for Speed: Most Wanted - A Criterion Game PS3
Need for Speend: Most Wanted drops you in to a world where you are try to become the most wanted. It's an open world game where you can get new cars by finding them. There is no progression when it comes to having a bad car car and moving up the ranks. You can drive around, try to win all the races and upgrade your car and then challenging the most wanted in the city. The game can be played any way you want to, by not forcing you to one car or a linear path getting to the end. You can drive any car you find and have and upgrade it as much as you want. It makes up for a refreshing take on the racing genre that has had the same recipe for a long time.

The gameplay is really solid. It's based on a an open world where you can explore everything about the city. It's built very well with wide difference of locations and areas to explore. The races take advantage of the map and makes it possible to take shortcuts if you know the city and the roads well. The game really gives the player a feel of speed. It never feels dull racing. The choice between cars is great and gives the player enough of a choice to find the favorite car. The gameplay is solid. It takes maybe an hour to get used to the handling. But it will be easy to get used to it. The handling can sometimes be a little clunky and not as sharp as you want it to be. Hitting a shortcut or a narrow turn can be unprecise when you really want it to be. But it's solid, but not always as accurate as it needs to be.
There is also a progression system that is rewarding and challenging at the same time for each of the cars. You don't get upgrades for the car unless you manage to finish among the top 3. It gives you an incentive to master the tracks if you don't manage to to win the first few times. The car upgrades also gives the player enough of room to choose how the car handles and if you want to favor off-track tyres, handling, acceleration or pure speed

The rumble of the engines sound authentic and immerse the players in the game. There isn't a whole lot to talk about the audio and the sound. There is music and the rumble of the engine that keep your ears occupied.

The graphics are really well done. The cars and the open world look amazing with the Chameleon engine used for this game. The crashes with the cars look really visceral. The water on the tarmak also looks really sublime. The game really shines with the graphics in the game. Having a day and night cycle also improve the visuals for the game and make it stand out.

This is a great game in the series and the best i have played in a while in the Need for Speed series. The game is easy to pick up and get lost in. It has great graphics, solid racing feel and handling, great progression and great cars to choose from.
