Although it's far from the best, it is surely not bad.

Sure, graphics are not that good, but that is not the specialty of the Wii. You got to focus on gameplay. I guess there is some bugs, but they are infrequent and you can shake them off your mind in a short time. Controls... Here's the problems:
1. The AI dunks too much.
2. The AI grabs rebounds a lot compared to mine.
3. The player somehow can't grab defense rebounds too much, it's like the AI knows where the ball's gonna miss and get in position. That's pretty much the only frustrating thing that I have.

Ok... But some are good.
The graphics you shouldn't pay attention to. It's the Wii! On other consoles like playstation you can say that, but this is Wii! I guess the graphics are not great, but not too blurry.

The gameplay... About this part I think Gamespot's half right. The AI dunks too much, even from behind the free throw line. BUT, I don't get how you can make layups from behind the 3-point line. I only made that shot once out of every layup I did behind the arch. Either the reviewer has a buggy game, or he tries to make distant layups all the time.

The sound is the best part of the game. The sounds are realistic, and of course the commentary is excellent.

Gamespot, you're half right about this review.

I wouldn't recommend this game since it's getting old. Get NBA 2K9/2K10 or NBA Live 09 and beyond.
