Same old crap that plagued NBA 2k13 still lingers...

Sadly, after all the hype, the play of NBA 2k14 isn't much different from NBA 2k13.

The uncontrollable animations? Still here, just less common. Teammates can't defend 3pt shooters? Still here. Teammates losing box out battles for no reason? Still here (at least now they try to box out). Teammates can't make wide open 3pt shots with 83 3pt shot while people with 75 3pt shot rain them as soon as you sag even a little. Still here.

What about the stupid dribble animation spamming that allows the CPU to cheese its way into the paint for an easy basket/foul? Still here, more prominent than ever. Big men who has no business dribbling suddenly can drive while doing crossovers and behind-the-back like it's nothing. Your teammates losing the ball by dribbling into the defender, etc etc, it's all there.

Now I have to give them credit, dribbling is a lot more fun this year. Blocking dunks with good timing is really satisfying. Attacking the basket is a lot more fluid, and a lot of the kinks with mid-range shots have been worked out. However, the reason that this game gets a 6 and not a 7 is due to My Player.

This year, it's really really difficult to get good teammate ranking. Good shot selection have all but disappeared, appearing randomly, even when you're taking contested shot, and never appears when you take shots that are A+ and swish.

In addition to a very limited selection of things to do to improve your teammate score, the penalty for screwing up is SEVERE. You can easily go from B+ to C+ in 1 possession, which is really annoying. Even if you play really well, it's very hard to get above B+, especially when the CPU can cheese its way through your defensive efforts with impossible passes, such as ones that goes through screening players, etc...

It's a lot closer this year, however, don't get your hopes up too high.
