EA Sports does a bang-up job with MVP Baseball. A solid baseball game for the ages.

EA Takes a huge swing. It contacts! It's going... going! IT'S GONE! EA pumps out yet another quality MVP Baseball game. This time for the Playstation portable. The box art is the same as MVP Baseball 2005, but EA decided to drop the 2005. For the standard price of $50, you can take home a grand slam game that will keep you swingin' for the stands for hours on end. MVP features 4 Modes of gameplay and plenty of extras. Quick Play allows you to select 2 teams and pit them against each other in a game of 1 inning, 3 innings, 7 innings, or 9. You can also adjust the difficulty of your opponents. Head to Head Mode allows you to play a game against a friend using Ad Hoc mode. (Someone with the game will need to be within range of you.) Season mode allows you to pick any Major League Team and take it into the Season. Do you have what it takes to lead them to the World Series? 3 Difficulties, Rookie, Pro, and MVP are available. Home Run Showdown is the simple Home Run Derby. Pick two players and have a home run derby using one of them. Fouls will put you down, when Home Runs and Money Balls will put you flying into the lead. The graphics of MVP Baseball are great. The player's faces are vibrantly displayed as well as their batting, pitching, and fielding stances. The stadiums are graphically awesome. Sadly, the crowd is horribly animated. They are simply gray square cut outs that are somewhat resembling to human beings. The outfield screboards do not update as the score changes, but that's not that bad, because you will only see them when you can hit the ball to the scoreboard. MVP Baseball is very realistic. As your pitcher progresses through the game, his Stamina Drops. Eventually you will have to Warm up some Pitechers in the bullpen and switch him out. Visits to the Mound can sometimes jump your pitcher's Stamina. But if they're done at the wrong time, it could send their Stamina down 10%. If you're having trouble with your pitcher, then mound vists could make pitching damn near impossible. For an accurate pitch, you must stop the meter in the Green Zone. Stopping it in the red could result in a wild pitch or even hitting the batter, which could result in a fight or an ejection from the game. Pitching takes practice, which is why you should always start on Rookie. MVP Baseball also has tons if unlockable features. Such as Legendary Players and Stadiums. You can also obtain Retro Jerseys using MVP Points. MVP Points are obtained by completing variou stasks throughout a game. Tasks such as hitting 2 home runs with 1 player, Hitting a grand Slam, having a pitcher last the whole game and scoring 10 or more runs a game are a few examples. MVP Baseball has a few glitches. To date, I have gotten Two Freeze-ups. When I'm winning 13 to 1 in the 8th Inning, the game suddenly stopping seriously endangers the well-being of my PSP. And one of them was just as I hit a 3 run home run. You could only imagine the anger and frustration. But it's all worth it if I can have such a solid baseball game with so many great features. The Loading times aren't too bad and the Memory taken up is about 800 KB (not MB) with a Season Save, A MVP Profile Save, and 1 Created Player Save. The Music tracks are great. It features a bunch of great songs. You can even edit the playlist that you want to listen to during the course of the game. A great little feature to add to a great little game. So if you're looking for an instant classic, hard to put down, solid baseball game, then MVP Baseball is right up your alley.
