what is wrong with you? why is the game bad? i'll show you the oppositte. READ BEFORE YOU VOTE. you'll see i'm right
i read some of the reviws written by the others and i couldn't help writing one myself. why do you think the game is so bad? i'll give you reasons why the game is cool and you'll see i'm right.
1) graphics
well the graphics are indeed not THAT good but don't forget the game appeared in 2003, the game setup doesn't have more than 200 or 300 MB and above all that the game is free. better than nothing, i'd say it really works. the items look rather cool for a game like this especially when you raise their level to +9 (or even above +9 if you know how to play the game, instead of just saying "nah, this game stincks, i'm outta here". of course i'm not talking here about experienced players, because if you know how to play the game, the knowledge to raise the items at +11, or even +13 on some versions, is an absolute must)
2) sound
you really must be blind if you didn't notice, but that magic GOOGLE has a lot of answers for mu online. why do you say the sound is bad? well indeed the background music is bad (i have to agree with that) and the sound effects aren't the best, but as i said before you can't expect more from a game like this (i mean being from 2003, the size and all that)
now back to that GOOGLE thing i was talking about earlier. there are maybe HUNDREDS of private servers of mu online. if you search for the best 100 you'll surely find one to suit your needs. most of the private servers have admins which replace that background music with popular songs (rock, pop and so on). it sure is much better to listen to metallica, avril lavigne, james blunt or whatever than that silly music. on most servers you can listen to great songs so i don't see whats the problem.
or you could always mute the sound in mu and use winamp or media player or something to listen to music. i mean if you know the game well, you should know that there's no need for the sound effects and all that. just listen to your favorite bands and play.
was that so hard to do? i guess not
3) very addictive
well let's just say that this point was covered by a lot of reviews and most people know how addictive this game is. but i'll show my reasons as well at the points below
4) the game itself
as you all know in this game you have to choose a hero (elf, knight, wizard, gladiator and dark lord), beat stuff up, grow a lot of levels, make a lot of resets, have the best armor, weapon, wings and so on and so forth.
[] now i've noticed that some say "you just wonder around the game wasting time and doing nothing". well my good man i beg to differ because if you know how to play the game there ARE things you CAN do.
most people just want to become full characters (for those who don't know the meaning of full character, it means that all your stats are at their maximum), have the best equipment then just fly around and kill noobs or other players, take part in guild wars and the list goes on.
but there are some people who would like something else besides all the levels and all the killings. that's where the imagination comes in. most of the servers have administrators who organize events which are really fun (of course unless you're the boring type who hates everything. in that case just become full and quit. that simple). these events are pure imaginative and would be something like racing, hide & seek, player kill contest and so on.
you can also trade stuff for something better, or if you know a secret place where there are good items just come back in town with your hands full and sell some good stuff. you don't know what you might get back in return. or you could become more popular. there are a lot of ways.
[] others say something like "i level up so slow, it takes too much time to reset my character". i REALLY hope you are NOT playing on Global MU. because there it can take you forever to reset. other than that just pick a private server which has a high experience rate (like 1000x or 5000x or 99999999x whatever you like there are many to choose from).
[] then there was something which really attracted my attention: "you don't have a life if you play this game", some would say. dude..................ummmmmmmmm..................what are you talking about? just because some of us like to stand up for this game doesn't mean we are nerds. what's wrong with people these days??? i enjoy going out with my friends, and i bet most people who like this game agree with me. don't think for even a second we believe that this game is more important than friends. even if you stay a few days in the house to play it, you still return to your pals one way or the other. maybe that's the way YOU feel (just because you feel like that it doesn't mean we all do)
I AM GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE AGAIN. THERE ARE A LOT OF PRIVATE SERVERS FOR MU ONLINE. DO NOT PLAY ON GLOBAL MU BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE GAME STINCK.
[] i noticed someone said "it slows down my computer" or "it runs very slow" or "there's a lot of lag". let me point what the problems might be
=====> your computer must be very slow (i mean if it has less than 256 MB of RAM)
=====> your internet connection (just repleace your provider. i don't think there's any other way. of course i'm really hoping that this is the case when there are no bandwidth eaters turned on. like download accelerator or messenger)
=====> the server has a connection problem, in which case just pick another server (but that doesn't happen very often now because the internet speed has increased a lot in the last couple of years. not to mention that only responsible people create servers, because they know it won't last for long if they don't take care of it)
[] "the game has no purpose. you can play like this forever"
yes that is true (and sad). the game doesn't have a basic story. that's why i mentioned all the other things you can do so you won't feel that bad the absence of a story. so just play until you get bored of it. but that DOESN'T mean you didn't like it while it lasted. admit it.
[] there are also parties, guilds, a friends box etc. so stop saying that you are all alone. if you really ARE alone then this means you don't know how to socialize (which i believe it may happen in real life). you start to feel bored because you've got nothing to do and the game is the best choice to put the blame on isn't it?
[] others who disaproove the game say "the game is fun for a month or so". well i'm pretty sure these smart-guys played on global right? because in private you need just a few days, in rare occasions two weeks at best to get the most out of that server. the game is addictive (as i said before), thus there are some who sleep less at night, but after two weeks they can just quit the game, happy that they accomplished everything possible. after that they can just play on another server (experience the difference) or stop playing MU for good (the addiction is over so to speak). but I AM SURE that this kind of people (who felt the taste) can't say it was a bad game.
[] blood castle, devil square, chaos castle
well blood castle and devil square are easy to beat if you have more than 7 resets (the prizes you receive are quite decent if i may say so myself). chaos castle on the other hand allows you to play against human characters (not mobs) which makes it more interesting.
[] the characters have unique abilities (except for the magic gladiator who takes a little from the wizard and the knight. he has his own spells, don't worry). you can try a lot of posibilities, i won't get into details here
