Finish him! ... LAMETALITY!!!

User Rating: 6.5 | Mortal Kombat: Shinken Kourin Densetsu SNES
Yes, everyone knows Mortal Kombat. The sound, the graphics and the characters are the same, but it's a fighting game infamous for it's brutality and gore, which is EXACTLY what this port is missing. I don't understand why some people rate it so high, commenting how the fatalities and blood are great when they DIDN'T even play this one ONCE!

I'll explain. Back then, Nintendo had a problem with the violence, so they decided to censor everything. They completely removed all the brutal fatalities and replaced them with stupid family-friendly ones. Instead of Kano ripping out his opponent's heart, he just punches them in the chest ... wow, so brutal. Johnny cage kicks them through their body, instead of the usual uppercut that cuts their head off. Another thing they replaced was the blood. Instead of the usual gushy red, you see gray sweat every time you land a blow. It might not be that bad for you but come on; I'm a psychopath, I want to see BLOOD 0_0

The arcade version was great, but this one is just a tad boring. Ah, did you know parents actually complained to Nintendo that their kids feel ripped off because there's not enough violence? And to think, Nintendo actually thought they sided with the parents on this one with the whole censorship thing. If you want to play this game, play it on the Genesis; it plays better, and it stays faithful to the original concept of the game. Thank God Nintendo realized its mistake and decided to not mess with Mortal Kombat II.
