Quite possibly the first real fighting game and still one of the best.

Although this game is showing age, it's still a timeless classic in the mind of any fan of fighting games, Mortal Kombat started it all, with it's brutal fatalities and great combos. This game started a new genre and raised the bar for all previous fighters, this one featured an array of violence, blood, guts, bones, gore and of course... stage fatalities! Everyone who has ever played Mortal Kombat knows they loved it, it was a great game and in a way, it was way ahead of its time, combining combinations along with innovative fighting set up. Finishing moves, signature moves, taunts, etc... these were all started in Mortal Kombat. Also, how would a review of Mortal Kombat be without mentioning the characters, perhaps the best created and most memorable of any fighting game, even to this day. Lui Kang, Shang Tsung, Subzero, Scorpion, Raiden, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Kano and of course, my personal favorite, the almighty Goro, the four-armed beast and slave of Shang Tsung.
