Mission Akkomplished

User Rating: 8 | Mortal Kombat X PS4

It has arrived. The long awaited sequel to one of the most popular and controversial fighting games ever created. Mortal Kombat X does what it knows how to do best. Brutal out-of-this-world fighting with excellent frame rate, illuminous environments and photorealistic gore. Lets break the basics:
The Good:
1) The game runs on 60 frames
2) The combat is fast paced
3) The characters have excellent reflexes
4) The environments are stunning
5) Character variations offer multiple gameplay options
6) Characters are balanced.
7) Fatalities never felt better
8) Optional finishers (brutalities and faction kills) are a great change of pace
9) Faction wars, living towers and online, each with their own respective leaderboard system add to the excitement

The Bad:
1) Story mode is unrewarding and shallow
2) Servers could do a lot better
3) Krypt mode requires you to grind gold just to own the second fatality and brutalities of characters, while eventually rewards you with lesser rewards such as concept art, fan art and soundtracks
4) Fan-favourite characters like Sindel, Noob Saibot, Rain, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, Kabal, Stryker, Jade, Sheeva did not make it in the roster

Final words: Mortal Kombat X is a fascinating game. It lives up to its predecessors, trying some fresh ideas that work great. It should be regarded as the best Mortal Kombat to date, and with the next-gen perks offered, such as DLC's and patches, make you hope that even the small weak spots this game has will disappear eventually. Old fans will love it and newcomers will enjoy the variety of choices and competition this game has to offer.
