MK vs. DC works well on most levels as fighting game, but it should really be called ''watered down'' MK vs. DC

User Rating: 8 | Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe PS3
The Good:

Great Online Multiplayer:
Very addictive and hard to put down once you get started. You'll be playing it for a long time. The online multiplayer is the real reason to own this game.

DC characters work well & look great:
A great addition to the Mortal Kombat series. All the characters from the two worlds are evenly balanced and very fun to play. I actually liked playing as the DC characters more than the MK characters because the DC characters seemed to have more variety in terms of moves or powers.

Easy to perform fatalities:

Although I'm a big Mortal Kombat fan (since I owned Mortal Kombat 2 on my Sega Genesis) the one thing that bugged me in past about previous console versions of MK was the fatalities were too difficult to perform. DC Universe vs. Mortal Kombat does way with that. Pound sombody into the ground or light them on fire, it's really easy to make your character do a fatality, and that's a good thing.

Good solid storyline for single player mode:
You can play two different paths in the storyline as the DC or MK characters. It explains why Jax and other human characters in the game can go toe to toe with Superman. Great cut scenes and wonderful voice acting. The plot is kind of thin and the ending is somewhat predictable.

''Battle worn'' characters:
I don't know if this is a new graphic to the series, because I missed the last few MK games, but the ''battle worn'' look to the characters is a great addition to DCU vs MK. The characters really look like they have been in a fight! They have cuts, black eyes, blood, wounds and costume damage. At last! Superman's costume isn't indestructible.

The Bad:

Some of the Graphics:
Some of the game looks like a last gen game. Although the characters look great, the backgrounds look dull and in some cases, very unfinished compared to the great looking character models. Everything else graphic wise seems to have a grainy look to it. The game graphics have a cut-out and paste feel. All of the "male" character models look great, however the same can't be said of the female counterparts. The women in DCU vs. MK look like they have been beaten with the ugly stick! Sonya and Wonder Woman both have faces like dogs. Yeech! Also all the female characters have weird elongated bodies and they look a bit on the strange side. />

Not enough characters:
The big selling point to this game was to focus on the DC characters. My question is... Where the hell is Robin? DC Comics has tons of great heroes and villians to choose from like Aquaman, Two Face, Bizarro, Super Girl, Power Girl etc and Midway could only pick 11 DC characters? Midway really should of had way more choices for the DC characters. Ten DC characters (plus 1 unlockable character) is not nearly enough.... Sure, Batman vs. Superman is a cool match up, but Batman beating the snot out of Robin would of been better. Why gives us so little? It's disappointing that some of the Mortal Kombat character staples like Johnny Cage or Reptile are not included.

Not enough One player content:
The story mode isn't long enough. You will burn through it in a few hours. After you're done both story modes, there's not much left to do... except play online. You can play Arcade Mode or Practice mode as a single player but why would you?

The Combo challenge:
Way too hard... with no pay off unless you collect PS3 trophies. Good luck trying to get any of the trophies for the combo chalenge. I tried it many times and it's pretty much impossible on the PS3 version of the game to get one.

Online is not for Newbies:
Don't get me wrong, online is the real reason to buy this game, but expect to be beaten many, many, many times by Sub-Zero, Scorpion or the Flash. Experienced players use these characters moves (in a cheap way) and you really don't have a chance against them if you are a new player. Experienced players look for Newbies, just like Lions look for weak Antelope... My only advice is to practice, practice, practice. Try to swat down and block a lot if you are playing against the Flash, Sub Zero etc. Wonder Woman and Batman have very good ground moves and are good to use against the Flash, Sub Zero or Scorpion if you can get in close.

Toned down Fatalities:

The Teen rating really hurts the traditional MK style fatalities. Adding the DC characters is a good thing for a fighting game, but at the same time it really is a kick in the nuts to the Mortal Kombat we all know and love. I know DC would never allow Superman or Batman to kill anyone... but MK side of this game doesn't feel or play the same without the gore and blood.
