User Rating: 9.5 | Mortal Kombat Trilogy PS
The good: all the characters that appeared in a Mortal Kombat game before this are here, all the stages are here, still excellent and fun to play, all fatalities, brutalities, animalities, etc. are here 2 on two mode and 8 player kombat, amazing graphics and a high quality soundtrack
The bad: Shang Tsung's load times are unbearable, boss characters are extremely cheap.

I usually say that the Nintendo 64 is a better console than the classic Playstation, but I saw Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the Playstation, so I couldn't resist. Being the huge Mortal Kombat fan I was, I found this to be the ultimate collection of classic 2D action all inside a monster bloodbath. This actually isn't 3 games in one. Instead, it's one game with all the characters and stages that appeared in a Mortal Kombat game up to that point. It has all the finishing moves you loved so much. It even features all the easter eggs! This features so much stuff that the Nintendo version could not, so I feel the Playstation version is superior to the 64 version.

This features everything you would want in a fighting game. The amazing Multiplayer 2 on 2 and 8 player tournament provide for a lot of replay value, despite the loading times, which the 64 version did not have. There's even a 1 on 1 mode you and your friend can play, or by yourself. This has a lot of potential, so what could go wrong?

Well, there are a few shortcomings. The main issue is the load times. For the most part, they're short, but for Shang Tsung, you have to wait 5 seconds in a battle! This makes him nearly unplayable because of his morphing powers, making the Nintendo 64 version superior when using Shang Tsung. Also, the Boss characters are too powerful, tall, and cheap! You'll have a complaining friend when you use him, but these are minor problems that don't completely affect the game-play.

The graphics look sharp and better than the arcade version, although one could argue the 64 version looks slightly better. Even so, they are amazingly digitized, and the blood looks even more realistic than before The soundtrack is superior to the 64 version, and it sounds fantastic and shows what the Playstation could do. The digitized sound effects are crystal clear as well.

Even though the graphics and load times are inferior to the 64 (the former being barely inferior), game-play is what matters the most, and when it comes to the playstation, you won't need to buy a controller pak to buy it (I'm not sure if the 64 version needs the controller Pak). The addicting gorefest of this game is so gruesomely fun it shines as the once 2D franchise's last breath of fresh air. If you want the ultimate fighting game for your Playstation, please choose Mortal Kombat Trilogy. If you can get past the load times and cheap boss characters, this is the ultimate fighting game on any console. Note: My favorite character to use is Jax.
