I love the classic games... but if you re-release such an OLD game AGAIN, then give it something NEW worth my while!

First of all, don't get me wrong. I am a big Mortal Kombat fan. But this review is totally unbiased. Trust me. Whether you're an MK fan or not you will find pure truth in this review.

This is not the first, nor the second, nor the THIRD time that NetherRrealm Studios (formerly Midway) are RE-releasing their classic Mortal Kombat games. They haven't learned one damn thing from the past, which is the classic stupidity of the Mortal Kombat development team. They call their ports Arcade perfect. That doesn't make the game perfect (glitches are still there). That means it's a perfect port from the arcade and if the arcade port was faulty in any manner, you just bought yourself that trash.

I'm not saying these games are trash. But the fact that they (NRS) are aware of all the issues that exist in the arcade and didn't bother to fix it lowers its value. There's no excuse into not being able to improve these games. Fans have been complaining for the past several years about the problems with these games; yet they still release the same garbage. Their only possible excuse could be "Duh, well uh... we want the players to experience the same exact game they did back in the 90s with no changes." Yeah really? We've had that opportunity MULTIPLE times in the past considering this IS NOT the first time they're shoving these old games out in the market. So it wouldn't kill them to actually make the necessary changes to improve this game.

The AI hasn't changed for the better. Well, it hasn't changed at all really. It's still set to Eat-All-Your-Quarters mode (YAY FOR ARCADE PERFECT VERSIONS!!). This means, even on the easiest difficulty level, after your second opponent on the tier, you can toss away all hopes of being the first to execute a throw or uppercut against your opponent. The AI will always know when to block and counter your moves. The graphics look better on MAME to be quite honest. This looks like they took SNES graphics and upgraded it a little bit. It's almost as bad as MK Trilogy on PC.

Maybe I'm very angry that we were supposed to get a HD Mortal Kombat and then it was cancelled. Now we're stuck with this. Something we've had over and over again. No new online features, still the same (if not worse) crappy multiplayer lag. It's just ridiculous. You'd think that since UMK3 has game modes that support 2v2 that four players could connect and play. No. That would make too much sense. That would require actual work on their part to change a few hundred lines of code (which is not much and I would know since I program for a living).

These games are a great addition to your collection if you haven't already downloaded the ROMs for MAME, or if you didn't buy it during the other multitude of opportunities in the past. The only time I will ever waste another penny on an old Mortal Kombat game is if they truly put the effort to IMPROVE the experience instead of having you relive it AGAIN and AGAIN.

Oh yeah... Feb 2... Happy Birthday to me! ... NOT. It was just ruined by a bad MK Game. I wish I had a gift receipt.
