Mortal Kombat goes back to it's "Klassic" roots, and it delivers.

User Rating: 9 | Mortal Kombat PS3
I want to start off by saying, this game is arguably the best MK game out there. It goes back to the "Klassic" style of Mortal Kombat that we all know and love, and it's just a great experience. If you weren't a fan of the 3D Mortal Kombat games, I think this one will be a good way to get back into the franchise again, since it's back to it's 2D style.

The graphics are AMAZING, they're easily the best graphics I've seen in a fighting game. It also uses Unreal Engine, so the animations are crisp. The fatalities look phenomenal, and of course, the character designs look great as well. Everything including the special moves looks realistic, and mind-blowing.

Brutal Kombat/X-ray, gives a really cool effect. You can literally watch your character break someones skull, back, or jaw, and you can see the teeth flying out of their mouth as well, it's awesome.

The story mode took me around 5 hours to complete which is a good length for a fighting game. That's longer than some FPS that I've played, and the story itself is told in time travel perspective. Raiden see's premonitions of everyone's destiny, or death, and he tries to change it, but some things drastically change for the worse. This leads up to a cool character known as Cyber Sub Zero, instead of Smoke getting transformed into a cyborg, it's Sub Zero, and he looks and plays spectacular. You also get to see Sektor and Cyrax as humans for part of the story. So story mode works, the voice acting is great and fits the characters, and it's a good fighting game story that's told better than most fighting games.

It also has everyone's favorite characters from MK1-UMK3, which is a good thing.

The difficulty of the game is everywhere, some sequences are really easy, but some can be pretty tough, and will take you a few tries, specifically Shao Kahn. You have to fight him twice in story mode, and it took me about 10 tries until I learned a trick to beat him. But it's basically the same as MK1-UMK3. MK has always been known as one of the harder fighting games, but it's fun.

Overall-9.0/10

Mortal Kombat 9 is a good pickup for any fighting game fan, and definitely any MK fan who likes the old-school MK games, or just the MK games in general.
