The wait is finally over. MK is back and bloodier than ever.

After being extremely disappointed by marvel vs capcom 3, MK appeared to be my fighting fix for 2011. Mortal Kombat has always been my favorite fighting franchise despite its occasional inconsistency. The one great thing about Mortal Kombat in contrast to SF and MVC is that it is filled to the brim with KONTENT. This is something that most fighters fail to deliver. Although fighting games are meant for the arcade, we are not living in the 90's anymore. A $60 dollar console title should deliver enough content to make the player feel like it is worth the purchase. This is something MVC failed to do.

Mortal Kombat includes various modes and unlockable kontent via the Krypt, the massive graveyard first introduced in Deadly Alliance. The lore present in Mortal Kombat games can definitely get a bit ridiculous at times, but they've done a good job at making the story mode entertaining and fluid. It is apparently very lengthy which is pretty awesome for a fighting game to attempt. I have been extremely impressed by the story thus far.

But the only real way MK will be enjoyed and respected within the gaming community is if the gameplay is good, and it is. Very good. The special gauge is probably the best addition to this game. It really adds an element of strategy to the game, previously not present within the franchise. The gameplay is back to the old with a 2D presentation and mainly focused on stringing special moves together. There are enhanced versions of specials which will drain your gauge as well as the X-RAY moves which are extremely satisfying to pull off.

But the reason why MK has received recognition for years is its gore. At its core, that is what MK is all about. In my opinion,THIS IS THE GORIEST GAME OF ALL TIME and will satisfy everyones sick desires. It's nearly impossible to not shout out, "OH S**T!" when performing your first fatality with a character. Mortal Kombat has always been pushing the envelope and they continue to do just that. Moms and Christians across America will be very upset with Ed Boon and co.

Mortal Kombat is a GREAT FIGHTING GAME and a MUST BUY for fans of the franchise.
