Way better than a 6.5....

User Rating: 9.5 | Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G PSP
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is probably one of the greatest games I personally have played on the PSP, if not almost ever. While it's not perfect, it's certainly not the worst game in the world. Freedom Unite starts you off (or continues where you left off) Just as Monster Hunter Freedom 2 did. You begin your Monster hunting journey with extremely basic equipment, and not alot at your disposal, but shortly after doing the village elder's starting quests you'll quickly earn some money, and some materials required to upgrade or even build new weapons and armor. This is when the game begins to pick up.

Soon I found myself stalking creatures and learning their moves, and how they interacted with the things around them. Starting with monsters as small and easy to kill as Velociprey, and working my way after several painstaking hours of gameplay to much stronger monsters as the Tigrex, or the Shen Gaoren. Lots of Reviews that I've read simply talk about a lack of a targeting system, and odd camera controls. but I havent had much problem with a camera myself, once you learn how the controls work, the camera is easy to deal with.

As for an Auto-targeting system, I personally am glad there isn't one, because I feel it'd take away from the game, gunners would be able to strafe and dodge every attack blasting at your enemy until you've successfully hunted the monster. but without some sort of lock-on system, you're free to attack vital parts of monsters breaking armor, or even cutting off limbs, further weakening the monsters, and earning you more rewards after the hunt is over, or in some cases during the hunt.

Another excellent reason to pick up monster hunter right now is: you can probably find it at most retailers for around 20 dollars. I've already invested over 100 hours into monster hunter, and i'm probably not even half-way through all of the missions. and i've got alot more weapons and armor to make, and many more monsters to hunt.

To summarize, I think Monster Hunter Freedom: Unite is an Excellently put together and thought out game, for a reasonable price, with extensive amounts of gameplay, and replayablility, Great multiplayer with your friends. Despite minor frustrations during later hunts when monsters become more difficult.
