SDS has made some questionable decisions.

Good baseball simulation yada yada yaa. RTTS is ruined.

They've forced you into only having one player model. You can't create multiple characters. They've tried to link it into Diamond Dynasty. It feels like they are trying to push everyone towards DD where the money is. I'd be very interested in hearing SDS's reasoning on how they believe the changes they made improve RTTS. The menu is a downgrade from last year. It feels like they changed it for the sake of having something new. I think that's a problem with yearly games in general though, it should be okay to keep some things the same if it's good. Cherry on the problem sundae is that RTTS programs (upgrade your character) don't actually work if you don't have a connection or the servers are down (Pretty frequent).

Players have been losing freedom with RTTS. You can no longer build the player you want. So far, it doesn't seem possible to build some of the greatest mlb players.

I'm a mildly annoyed customer >:((( I'm going to play RTTS on 20 and DD on 21.

Edit (September 9th, 2021): Not playing DD on 21 either now. Too much expectations for you to constantly dedicate time to this game each day. I liked MLB TS because it was different from 2k/EA, but now it seems like their adopting practices I dislike 2k/Ea for, such as trying to keep your playerbase constantly playing, not because it's a good game, but because you don't want to miss a card that requires 5-60 minutes every single day for a month. Sometimes I like to put the game down for a few weeks. I'm not going to buy another mlb ts until they fix the issues with rtts and they don't expect you constantly play the game.

It's a shame really because the game is great, it's the concept of using time-limited content to keep users playing by leveraging Fear Of Missing Out that really overshadows it for me.
