World of Xeen is one of those "cult" games that will only appear to certain gamers. But those gamers will love WoX.

To put it bluntly, when this came out in 94' it was the largest PC game you could get. For New World Computing to put that much content into 30 Megabytes of harddrive space is pretty incredible. I believe that I spent roughly 100 hours on the game to just finish it.

This is very similar to it's predecessor, Isles of Terra in terms of gameplay and story. The interesting thing though, is the ability to freely travel between the worlds of MMIV and MMV through means of a transport temple. The graphics by today's standards are abysmal, but for the time the animations were great. You truly have to be an RPG enthusiast and at least 10 years old when this game came out to appreciate it's value.

The great thing about Worlds is the openness you have to explore. Granted each area has monsters of increasing difficulty, but if there's a will, there's a way. Leveling up here is simply gaining experience through fighting monsters and visiting the local trainer (with some money) to raise your character's levels. Having 6 characters can make this expensive, but a necessary evil.

Basically, the goal here is to liberate the Clouds of Xeen by defeating Lord Xeen (who awkardly enough can be reached as soon as you start the game by typing Lord Xeen in one of the teleport mirrors). Unfortuntely, you have to have the Xeen Slayer Sword and about 30 levels to do so. After that, the main goal in Darkside is to sneak Corak into Sheltem's lair and let death bloom on Sheltem. After this, the worlds must be united.

Good luck doing so without spending over 100 hours raising your six characters, doing sidequests, managing inventory, and running errands for NPC's.

Overall, this is worth a play, but it can only be run on Win 95 or 98, so be cautious of this.
