M&M: from lowly peasant to all-might dragon-slayer

User Rating: 8 | Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor PC
MM7 is another open-world, sandbox RPG from 3DO. You start off with a weak party of four characters, but will grow to wield powerful spells and abilities allowing you to spew dragon fire and lay waste to entire cities.

MM7 will surely please fans of MM6. In fact, it recycles everything from the basic gameplay to the graphics engine from that game. In this review, we shall award ++'s for advancements made vis-a-vis MM6. Some of the improvements made from MM6 to MM7 include:

- Story. In MM7 you start off by becoming lords of your own castle (with a small piece of land): Harmondale. While this might seem awesome, the place is in a dilapidated state with much work to be done. What's more is that the neighbouring kingdoms (Erathia and Deyja) have both taken in interest in your newly acquired homestead.
Admitted: MM7 focuses more on combat and character progression than story (which was also the case for MM6). However, while the story will not keep you sleepless at night (it does have some lose ends), it definitely adds a nice extra incentive to explore the world. For this, we shall award two points:
++

- character creation: three new races (dwarf, goblin and elf) and three new classes (thief, monk, Druid) has been added to the selection. The new races comes with pre-set bonuses and is a nice addition to the selection options. I did not care much for the new classes, although the monk supposedly is a good addition for a melee-focused party.
+

- Graphics: player will notice that most elements have been reused from MM6. Additions include 3D spell effects, smoother lightning and more detailed environment.

Bottom line is that MM7 takes everything that work great in MM6 and improved some aspects. Fans of the latter should look no further for a rich RPG-experience, while people expecting something new might be disappointed.
