Can still be fixed...
Then... where should I start?
The good first:
1. OK graphics - however, in order to enjoy that you have to constantly zoom. I recommend using the highest setting for shadows, it makes a serious difference. Nice battle animations.
2. Good music - continuing the tradition.
3. AI turns are pretty quick (on my machine) so you can progress easily through the game.
4. Reasonably good AI in open field battles (slightly weaker when defending a city)
Disappointments (in no particular order):
1. Missing factions. (patch coming?)
2. Sketchy heroes and monsters(biography-wise) - less background about them, less potential to identify with them.
3. Sketchy towns - no 3D view, limited info on the buildings, no clear upgrade path (of course, in time you figure it out), absurd conversion procedure.
4. Battle spells are weak and quite useless; a lot of spells that very slightly enhance your troops or weaken the enemies feel useless when compared with the alternative, where the hero simply attacks a stack. With few exceptions spells are too weak to build a strategy around them - thus I finished the first two campaigns using typically only three or four different spells.
5. Campaign story delivery - the dialog boxes are so 90s! I've noticed that while playing the demo and I hoped they will disappear in the final release, but no! The fact that the story itself is weak doesn't help.
6. There's a limited amount of Slavic names that I can ingest - 90% of the names in the campaigns seem to be of Slavic origin...
7. Battles are a bit repetitive - the only thing keeping me interested (tactically speaking) is trying not to lose any unit in most fights.
8. The occasional poor AI (on the map, not in fights) that runs into my hero with an obviously weaker army.
I believe none of these is impossible to fix, but the developers have to work damn hard for the next couple of patches.
