Despite the interesting control quirks, this collection of old arcade games is definately worth it.

Ever since the video arcade has been going through the apocolypse since 1996, video game publishers have been release their old arcade games as one-disc compilations. Midway Arcade Treasures for the GameCube is no exception.

Graphically, they're emulated perfectly. While the graphics in all of these games in the collection pale in comparison to original games on newer consoles, they hold up very well on their own. Some of the games on this collection are so simple that a black-and-white background was all you needed to satify your eye-candy cravings.

Soundwise, the games on this collection are faithfull recreated, with a few sacrifices. Many of the games on this collection use old 8-bit video game sound effects and music, while others use 16-bit audio. Also, some of the games have digital voice samples, simply making you think you're playing a SNES/Genesis game, as opposed to an Atari 2600/NES game.

Redarding the controls, most hold up well, while there are a select few that got botched up along the way. Although there are buttons to thrust and reverse your spacecraft in "Defender", like in the old arcade version, most people would rather prefer to use the left and right directions of the GameCube thumb stick to do said actions. Also, for some unknown reason, the controls of Marble Madness are not completely analog, meaning you have to hold the A button to speed up the marble's movement while moving, making it counter-intuitive in the process. However, kudos go to Midway to perfectly emulating the 8-way firing controls of the games Robotron: 2084, Smash TV and Splat!, by using the C-stick to fire your weapons.

Gameplaywise, they're extremely fun, if not extremely difficult. Expect to continue in Smash TV a lot, due to the enemies in that game coming en masse. Also, alot of these games on the collection have unique gameplay mechanics, such as bridge-building in Satan's Hollow, which is neccessary to battle against Lulcefer himself and earn a ton of bonus points, or rescuing the human families in Robotron: 2084, or making your bubble bigger in Bubbles.

Overall, this is a very good collection of old arcade games to have. If you're an arcade buff who wants arcade-perfect ports, look elsewhere for this.
