Fun, But Not For Everyone.

User Rating: 8.5 | Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix (Greatest Hits) PS2
Midnight Club 3 took a new path this time. Before, cars were custom, albeit similar to reality. This time it has a full licensed garage, and boy, is it a doozy. However, don't expect these cars to handle like they do in real life, which is why this game is a definite rental.

For some reason, Rockstar decided that cars go from a stop to one hundred and fifty miles an hour in about two seconds. They also decided to make cars stop and handle like they are controlled by god himself.

This is not necessarily a bad thing, however. It can be fun, particularly with slower cars. It can get quite stupid with faster vehicles, such as the McLaren F1.

Racing is unlike that of any other (major) game before the Midnight Club series. It retains the traditional system of the series, which is an open-route based race through a real city. This lets you decide where you want to go, as long as you hit each checkpoint in order.

There are also Unordered races, where you simply have to hit every checkpoint in any order you want.

The game definitely does not come alive in the sound department, which includes mostly mediocre songs, and a few terrible songs. It does let the game down a bit, but it doesn't matter a terrible amount.

Engine sounds are decent, and different between cars, but are by no means very realistic. The capture the basic idea, but that seems to be thrown out the window with modification.

The tuning and modification system is very shallow. While it is argued that it is very in-depth, the performance tuning is ridiculously basic, and many of the visual mods are extremely ugly. Though, there are a ton of options, so many of them are just so god-ugly that you'd wonder whether they are real, or just a sick joke. The fact that they are real is a bit of a plus.

Well, most of them are real. You will come across parts that are made by a particular in-game tuning shop. These parts are usually just for cars that have no (or few) real body mods. They also include items such as blowers for muscle cars.

While the game has a very large career mode, it is really quite boring and easy. It is much more fun to simply cruise around the city, racing every once in a while.

The game is strung together quite well, but it could have used a bit of fine tuning, mostly in making career a bit more interesting, and better music selections.

This game is definitely worth a rent, but don't buy unless you like the physics model. It is fun, but many would call the game garbage because of it.
