Metroid started out as a side scrolling adventure. Now Retro studios and Nintendo have changed the side scrolling legend to an awesome game in Metroid Prime.

The game isn’t a side scrolling shooter. Retro studios have transformed the Metroid series to a first person perspective. Now you can see through the heroine’s eyes and a lot closer to the action. But you don’t want to be too close for you will face horrific monsters and evil Space Pirates on Samus’ new adventure.

In Metroid Prime you take the role of intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran. Don’t let the suit fool you Samus isn’t a man (for those who didn’t know). Samus is a woman and a fine woman if I may add. At the beginning of the game Samus was ordered to investigate a distress beacon coming from a mysterious space frigate orbiting Tallon IV. Here you need to investigate what happened and find out what are the Space Pirates are up to again

Samus will face many dangers so she would need a lot of fire power to take out her enemies. Samus has many unique weapons and abilities. Like for example, she can curl up and form a ball which is actually called a morph ball. With this ability she can maneuver through small spaces. A pretty neat ability if you think about it. Her morph ball isn’t her only ability; she can unlock other moves abilities as she progresses through the game.

For fire power she has her trusted power beam. The power beam can fire either single shots or rapid fire if you tap the button. There various attachments to her power beam. Like for example the charge beam, which you can charge your beam to increase the beam’s damage.

She does have a lot of accessories. Since her adventure is taking place in a first person perspective she has to use her visor. The unique thing about the game is that instead of just looking through the eyes of the character like most fps games do. You look through her helmet. In the helmet you can see how much health she has, her visor configurations, etc. Her visor is very important because you can use it scan your surroundings to find clues and to scan your enemy to find information about it and find its’ weak spot. Now this is a cool feature. You can also use your visor for other things like to find things that are invisible and look for heat signatures. Besides all the beams and visors she can also upgrade her suit as she progresses through the game.

One of the best things about the game is the awesome boss fights! Samus won’t face bosses that are the same size as her. She will face bosses 5x bigger than her. The boss fights are unique because instead of just shooting around you need to scan the enemy and use your visors to hit him directly so it’s a hard time but well worth it. Besides fighting the evil Space Pirates Samus has to keep detailed info about her adventure. So she keeps her information in her log book. The log book stores information that you have scanned like enemy info, computer messages, artifacts, etc. So remember to scan important stuff.

Well this wraps up my review. The good thing about the game is that lots of cool features, awesome boss fights, and a great adventure so I recommend it to every Gamecube owner.
