My review of Metroid Prime

User Rating: 10 | Metroid Prime GC

Very few game series have made a transition from 2-D to 3-D and do it successfully, two of them was Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for N64, now Metroid Prime can be added to this list. When I played Metroid Prime, I was impressed because Retro Studio successfully made Metroid Prime into a first-person shooter while keeping action and exploration aspects of the Metroid series fans know and love. The game starts two visors, the combat which is self-explanatory and scan visor which allows you to scan things like enemies and items throughout the game. You can also the Thermal Visor which allows you to spot enemies by their body heat and the X-Ray visor which allows you spot things like platforms that are invisible to the naked eye. The beams that are used are the power beam, wave beam, ice beam, and plasma beam along with the beam-missiles all of which are awesome to use especially in a boss battle. The music that is in each section of Tallon IV fits in perfect with the overall experience of Metroid Prime. The game play is excellent in terms of using the missile-beam combos and being able to change visors and beams for the a specific situation. Metroid Prime has some of the best boss battles in the Metroid series. It has the best graphics for the GameCube, the creatures, 3-d map, environment look very good. Metroid Prime is hands down one of the best GameCube games.
