A Great Sequel

User Rating: 9 | Metro: Last Light - Ranger Mode PC

Metro 2033 was a very underrated game, I will admit it had its issues, but it was such a great game! I enjoyed its unforgivable nature, and the greatly detailed world. So now Metro Last Light is out, and its a spectacular sequel that improves on its predecessors faults in nearly every way.

MILD SPOILERS

Metro Last Light takes place after the events of Metro 2033's bad ending, which involved the destruction of the Dark One's home, these creatures are telepathic mysterious beings, and the humans fear them. I recommend you play 2033 first, or read the book "Metro 2033" their both worth you time, especially the book, which tackles interesting themes such as human nature. Ok, back on track, you play as Artyom (the man who destroyed the Dark One's, he is haunted by that action) you are informed by your mysterious friend, Khan, that one has survived. I'll leave the rest for you to discover, just know that Artyom's journey is an awesome one and needs to be experienced. I still have my issues, your a silent protagonist, but you talk during the loading screens, wait why?! This was the case in 2033 also, I understand it may be used to put yourself in Artyom's place but it feels odd, especially since there is a romance between him and a female soldier named Anna, she and all your companions have one sided conversations when talking to you and it just feels odd. Last Light also has moral choices which lead to two endings, sadly these aren't mentioned, so inexperienced players may not get to see both endings, the only thing that tells you are on the right path to the good ending is when the screen flashes, you need to act like a noble person, don't kill, listen to conversations, make good choices, etc. Getting the bad ending is self explanatory, go crazy.

The gameplay is vastly improved from 2033. Gun play feels far better and responsive, there are still a fair amount of glitches but compared to 2033 its a improvement. Stealth is more forgiving, at times this works, as 2033 could really be random with its stealth, but at other times this feels TOO easy. I didn't mind to much since you still died fairly easy when you were in gun fights (I played Ranger Hardcore.) Environments are more open (in the outside portions), and they are a joy to explore, there are a lot of things to find that link to the story. Sadly when you are in the metro its far more linear.

The graphics are beautiful! On PC the game just blows me away in how much detail there is in the environments, lighting, guns, sounds, well you get the point. Its a technical marvel!

Metro Last Light is an amazing game, if the game has flown under your radar I recommend you pick this one up! Its an experience that is well worth you time and money.
