Played 12 years after the release and MGS has kept me away from modern FPS's!
One of the key aspects that kept me engaged in this game was the story and character development over time. There is loads of action and dialogue, MGS always kept me on the edge of my seat wanting more of Snake and his incredible past.
The level layouts were very well designed, back tracking in this game did not make the levels repetative but made it better because there was always something new upon Snake's return. Boss fights would range from moderate to hard allowing a nice pace of gameplay, making it not too long and not too short.
Although the graphics cannot compete with graphics today the challenge was there, and I believe that is what most games are missing today.
With plenty of weapons, sneaking around, boss fights, watch guards, and cardboard boxes. MGS came out in 1998 and even in 2010 I set down all my modern games to play this piece of gaming history.
Snake? Snaaaaake!!!.......
