A great remake of a classic!

MGS Twin Snakes is a game I picked up a few months ago. This version of MGS1 was the first version I played so opinions will differ when I finish the PS1 version. This version of the game has gotten a lot of flack from most Metal Gear fans due to over the top action sequences, controls and bad VA. Well to be honest, I didn't see any problem with most of the issues that were pointed out by other ppl. I'll go into detail on that.

First lets talk about the gameplay and controls. The controls actually work surprisingly well for an MGS game on the GameCube. The devs knew what they were doing when mapping the controls to the GameCube. One noticeable change was that they decided to use the MGS2 mechanics or this remake. While this works to an extent, I think the fact that it's on an MGS1 environment is where it kinda fails. It kid of makes the game a little easier but not too easy to where it breaks the game.

Next, I'll talk about the story aspect of the game. The story remains the same but in this remake, they changed some of the cutscenes. I fucking loved the cutscenes in Twin Snakes! All the over the top action to some of the most hilarious scenes in the game was enough to keep me hyped throughout the whole of Twin Snakes! My favourite cutscenes include Snake 720 noscoping Sniper Wolf, Snake uppercutting Liquid off of REX, Otacon tumbling down the mountain in the ending and Gray Fox unleashing his inner Rules of Nature on REX. This kind of madness was why I loved MGS4 and Rising so much.

Another matter I want to discuss was the VA of the game. I actually think that the VA was ok except for certain characters like Naomi, Nastatsha and Mei Ling. Other than that, I didn't think the VA was as bad as they said it was.

The soundtrack in this game was stellar, with my favourite ones being Psycho Mantis' theme, the Alert theme in the Armory and the theme that plays during Snake's fight with REX. Also the small musical pieces when an emotional cutscene plays... just amazing!

Other than that I really enjoyed MGS: Twin Snakes! I'm not sure where these complaints are coming from. I think that some fans might be still wearing those "nostalgia goggles" as people like to call it. I'll have a review of the original up sooner or later, but I don't think i'll like it as much as this action-packed masterpiece of a game!
