This game may be hard, but most people should still be able to enjoy this game, even if you don't get very far.

User Rating: 8.6 | Mega Man Zero GBA
One thing that the Megaman series is famous for, other than being an overall great series, is the difficulty of their games. A lot of their games, mainly the earlier ones, are no walk in the park. This is something you should come to expect when you're picking up a platformer Megaman title. This does certainly include this installment, Megaman Zero.

The game begins with Ciel, a resistance fighter for the Reploids, running through a jungle with her squad of soldiers. Some type of robots are following them, and the soldiers are retaliating to their shots. The soldiers are instantly shot down by the robots. After, bigger and meaner robots are released into the jungle to chase down Ciel. Ciel reaches her destination, the resting place of Zero. Zero is known as a legendary Reploid who can save them from the evil that plagues the world now. Zero is to be ressurected to do his job as the Reploids' savior. The soldier with Ciel tries to get near Zero but is knocked back. All of the sudden, more robots appear. The soldier is killed. Now, the Baby Elf with Ciel says that she should use her power. Ciel is reluctant, but the elf reassures her, that even though she'll die, she did it for a good cause. Then Zero is resurrected. Your first mission is to lead Ciel to the Reploid Resistance Base. It's a simple easy starting mission. After you complete this mission, you will be in the Resistance Base, and Ciel will give you a list of missions. So grab whatever you can, and get ready to obliterate some hateful robots. The story is pretty good with some depth. Nothing special, but it does satisfy.

The gameplay is simple. It's basic side-scrolling action, where you just run around and blast the hell out of robots. You have simple tasks. Well, simple to understand, that is. Though as they say, easier said then done. If you want to beat this game, you will need side-scrolling skills. You do get weapons to help you, like the Z Sabre, the classic Blaster, a boomerang, and a rod. They are all sweet weapons, and are fun and easy to handle. Also, after much use, you will be able to gain new abilities for your weapons. They will certainly help, and can really make a difference for you. Though you will need practice. If you can speed run through this game, congratulations. You just proved yourself that you are a master of platformers. Yet, as challenging as this game is, it's still a very fun basic platformer. So even if you're side-scroller challenged, if you enjoy these kinds of games, it is worth playing.

In order for a difficult game to remain fun, the mechanics will need to work. Well, they do in this game. The controls are simple, so that means they are master-able. That right there adds replay value, since for you competitive gamers, this makes this game a great game to improve your side-scrolling blasting skills. The graphics are fine, smooth, and well detailed. The music fits the mood, and can be fun to just listen to. Good music improves gameplay, that is a fact. The sounds are classic. You just love to hear the sound of a robot being split in half, falling under the mercy of your relentless Z Sabre. Ah, true classic sound effects right there, yep. The mechanics don't hinder the game at all, which is good. In fact, they actually really do add to the game.

The Megaman games have for the most part been megahard. Though they still remain very enjoyable, even if you can only beat a few levels. If you like classic side-scrollers, or blasting the microscopic data chips out of a living machine's behind, or both, then this game is worth playing for you. It may be hard, though it's presented in such a way that the challenge can be greatly accepted by many of us. All of the mechanics add to this game in a way, which is a big plus. The story is not that engaging, though it is good enough that you will think about it. Though the meat of this game is just running around blasting robots constantly, and most of us here like meat. Or if any of you are vegetarian, well then... umm... I'll go with potatoes, since they're awesome.
