In comparison to the original MegaMan's compilation package, MegaMan X Collection falls rather short of its target.

User Rating: 8 | Mega Man X Collection PS2
After the success of the MegaMan Anniversary Collection in 2004, Capcom went at it again giving the more edgy incarnation to the blue bomber, X, a compilation package as well.

The end result? 6 games ranging from his SNES (X1, X2, X3) and PS1 (X4, X5, X6) along with an original MegaMan game that is unlocked by beating the first 3 games (MegaMan: Battle and Chase).

When it comes to Capcom and their franchises they usually pull out all the stops in making them stand out over everyone else. While they did a good job in emulating this collection of X games, to be honest it fails in comparison to the other collection of the original MegaMan. One of the things that the original has over X, is the unlockable arcade games that were major exclusive in Japan and Europe. The X collection gets a Mario Kart ripoff game with MegaMan characters that was also exclusive in Japan and Europe which should have stayed exclusive. Most of the unlockables in this game were lacking such as remixes from the original MegaMan X3, the same game itself which was replaced by the remade edition for the PS1. The one thing that I liked when you start the game was the interface. As opposed to the Anniversary Collection which has you sending MegaMan to his destination, all of the games are nicely lined up on a giant computer screen in the shape of an oval with a preview of the games appearing in the middle when they're highlighted.

All in all, Capcom did a pretty job with MegaMan X, though more effort should have been added to it. What COULD have done this package more justice is if they had emulated Rockman and Forte (MegaMan and Bass) from the SNES onto this game with the exception of Battle and Chase. That could have done X and Zero a little bit more justice than what it already has.
