You know, I love the Mega Man franchise, sadly certain games are very hard to find here in Europe, and some have not even been released. But I have managed to get a couple of games through the years. Now, I have gotten my hands on Mega Man Powered Up, I'll admit it, I wasn't too interested in geting it, what with the supercute characters and all. As soon as I started playing it, it was fantastic. A couple of recent Mega Man games have been really "complicated" for newbies, with a bunch of different attacks, learning when and how to use them, boss patterns to memorize and such. This game is pure old-school straightforward, easy to get into, Mega Man greatness.

The game is a remake of the original Mega Man game, however, you have the option to play a "modernized" version with more bosses and stages. You better hoose this one, otherwise this short game will be even shorter. It's a 2-3 hour game tops. Veterans will blast through it very quickly. But this is one for the kids, one that they'll manage with the easiest, the normal or maybe even the hardest difficulty setting. It's a well known fact that Mega Man games, at least many of them, are notoriously difficult. The Yellow Devil appears here, but the thing is, regular kids are actually gong to defeat him here. Veterans should stick to the hardest difficulty setting.

Again, this is a remake, so no charging the m-buster, no slide attack (initially, can be unlocked), no wall-jumping or air-dashing. It's just run and gun, side-scrolling, platforming 101, and I love it. You can unlock a few boss characters, but these are not as much fun to use. Though the game is really short, it has a couple of unlockables, and a challenge mode, which can be brutal. There is also the chance to create your own stages and share them with friends trough wi-fi.

The game's style will undoubtedly turn off certain people, but there's undeniably a lot of charm tied to these character designs. Music is good, nothing as awesome or memorable as in a couple of other MM games. The dialogue between MM and the bosses is appropriately silly.

Mega Man Powered Up is a great game that has a lot of charm and offers a platforming adventure like they used to make them, in the good ol' days. Don't let the character designs scare you away, this is a treat for any Mega Man fan.
