Magic and Exporation/Empire building in the same game.

User Rating: 8.9 | Master of Magic PC
Master of Magic is very similar to Civilization, especially they were published by the same company. The game itself is easy to play. Growing an empire is typical of most empire building games. The main thing here is to build up your heroes as fast as possible. With the many different races available for troops (ie cannon fodder) , makes building up your hero easy. In fact, the only real drawback is the Uber Hero that results. After a certain point, no army can stand against them.
That said, it is a very fun and absorbing game. Strategically speaking, it does follow most 4X games in format. Build and explore, than destroy conquer all before you. The graphics and sound are dated now (it is 10+ years old), at the time they were in the top 10, especially for turn-based strategy.
The game is DOS based. I first played it on 486/40 (AMD) when it came out. I still play it on that machine (yes, it still works with 1 mb ram). Highly recommend the patch if you plan on playing on any newer machines using Dos Box.
All in all, it proved that a fantasy, turn-based, strategy game could make the grade. If only they would make a updated version like they have for Civilizations.
