Great MP, and a bit of a ME game somewhere in the SP

User Rating: 6 | Mass Effect: Andromeda (Deluxe Edition) XONE
After 1.06 came out, I finally put in the ~110hrs required to get to 98% completion on SP. (I can't abide the "Naming the Dead" nor "Find me 3 more of these sprinkled unmarked repetitive map-fillers" like Ubisoft games, so screw the last 2%) The "middle 50 hours" were absolutely a Mass Effect game. The character banter, their side quests, and some of the faction quests were excellent. Even some of the map-filler was worthwhile. They even managed some LOL-worthy moments at several points (mostly tied to the party members). Combat scales well enough to not be totally boring, at least until you discover the Isharay and Dhan w/mods. THREE desert planets, though? yawn... The last 2-3 hours are exactly the same regurgitated SciFi crap that made Halo 4 & 5 utterly forgettable. At least the usual ME/DA "parade ending" is decent. I immediately replayed the first 10 hours in NG+ on Insanity, and although it only takes about 2.5hrs the 2nd time around, the writing and animation is still incredibly bad. Having a new player endure 6-10 hours of your WORST content is just bad design. The MP is excellent. Their dev & test priorities are clear.... This game is worth a sale price of $30 for the deluxe edition, post patch ~1.10.
