Amazing Game

User Rating: 10 | Mass Effect: Andromeda (Deluxe Edition) XONE

After my first play-through (around 83hrs somewhere between 80 - 90 %) and quite some time into the second, I have to say, there is not much in this game that I don't like/love/adore. I am someone who plays games more for the story and characters than anything else. There Bioware has never disappointed me so far and they certainly didn't disappoint me with this one.

It's a good story standalone on it's own and a f***ing awesome story when put into context. I also like, that you are rewarded story-wise for doing side content. This is a greater reward to me than just some other weapon, experience points etc. (of course you do get those too). All content (major and side) adds up to the overall experience of the story and the universe. Whether it's to connect to the Milky Way and the Shepard trilogy, or adding to the mystery that is Andromeda and it's history or to give you the experience of exploring and trying to settle in a complete unknown galaxy. Of course they added just the right amount of mysteriousness to keep you on edge and start thinking about the implications and how it fits in the overall picture/puzzle.

And I so love my squadmates (even the annoying one ;)). I don't understand the critique on those. It will take you some time to get to know them, find out about their background and so on. But that is actually what I like about Bioware games...that you get to do that. Each member of your crew is unique and interesting in their own way. And they do have interesting stories to tell. And the loyalty missions turned out to be the most fun ones in the game. So Bioware really obviously put again a lot of love and work into that.

The jetpack is such a nice addition and really makes for some game-play awesomeness. That combined with some fancy biotic powers and I absolutely feel like: "I AM A BIOTIC GODDESS" :) So, they really give you more freedom on character development than in previous mass effects, which to me is a great and welcomed improvement. That also goes for the Nomad and planet exploration. Where I always found myself trying to get as fast as possible to the quest point in ME1 (to get the annyoing part over with), I actually find myself enjoying just cruising around and see what waits around the corner. This is due to a) the planets are way more interesting and b) the Nomad is the first ground vehicle of the series, that I actually like.

The only flaws to me so far are some bugs that I encountered, where only one was really annoying (had to restart an architect fight because I wasn't able to finish him off as the last sequence didn't lock in) and some graphical glitches like a non-existing cabin door and Dreck managing to clone himself (both happend once on board of the Tempest). As the game is really huge and has a lot of content, I can easily forgive that.

At the bottom line I can say, this game makes me feel like a true explorer, like a Space Indiana Jones (or Lara Croft in my case) and it is an exciting setup for (hopefully) more Andromeda games to come.
