Has the wait been worthwhile.

User Rating: 8 | Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds PS3
Marvel vs Capcom 2 was considered one of the finest fighters ever to grace the world with its all star cast and massive combos. 10 years later Marvel vs Capcom 3 has finally hit the consoles but is it worth the wait.

Characters

You get characters from the likes of Street Fighter,X Men,Resident Evil,Spiderman,Megaman and countless other Capcom and Marvel unvierses. Unlike Marvel vs Capcom 2 which had tons of Street Fighter characters they only really got 4 in the end roster but who knows if others might become available in the future.

Gameplay

Each character has a certain amount of moves that they can string combos together in a 3 vs 3 battle. In the game you can swap your group around during battle if they are either struggling to cope with the opposition or getting beaten badly in battle. while they are out of the fight they gain health slowly and can assist or be recalled into the battle.

The good thing about Marvel vs Capcom 3 most of the characters have a completly different moveset and finding the right balance between them is crucial. You are never sure which is your strongest partnership so experiment and once you have the best partnership and can link good combos then its good to go. This is what makes the game appealing with its fast gameplay and brilliant roster. Some of the moves though do come out with mashing buttons but against a skilled player expect to get a lesson in how to play.

You super meter has 5 levels and the higher you get it the more damage it can inflict on your adversary. The question is when do you use it is the answer. Saving is probably best and hit them with a good combo and launch uit when you feel ready. Remember there are a few different types though. Some can be useful and some can't be if you use them to far away.

Modes

There is a story mode for the main game and you battle all the way to the final boss. Vs Mode you vs a friend, A training mode to learn the combos and characters, Mission Mode which is kinda like Street Fighter 4 trial mode it starts out easy but gets tougher as you go along and finally online mode.

Online Play

Online play features a Ranked Battle as you win matches your Rank will go up. It will tell you when you have a promotion to a higher rank.It doesn't have a points system like Super Street Fighter 4 which is something I like. Player Matches are like friendly matches and aren't as competitive and it also gives you chance to try out new character partnerships. Finally there is Create and Search Lobbies where a group of people can join and it holds a maximum of 8 slot for people to join which is actually really good.. The Net Code is probably about the same as other fighting games.

I do hold a few critcisms like Create lobbies you can't be a spectator and watch fights like you could in say Super Street Fighter 4. Instead you get a little info on how the characters are doing in the far right corner. Also if you invite a friend to a match online you might not get to even face them which is a real shame unless you host a 2 person lobby but I am sure you can have private slots just for your friends. What also dissapoints me is the searching you don't get to create lobbies like in Super Street Fighter 4 it just randomly picks for you and you are either on the right side or left side of the screen but a good thing is you can't counter pick your oppenent in the character select screen.

Players who go online with this game most who mash the buttons might get the odd win or two but against a pro will get a real lesson. Maybe you can learn from those defeats. I am sure it will take time to learn but it is all part of the experience.

Presentation

The presentation is nice and colorful and eye catching. It seem to be good to say it isn't a realistic fighter and is all about beating the hell of your opponent with combos and such. The music is nice with many memorable remixes and plenty of new tunes to keep things fresh.

Lastability

It should keep you occupied to keep playing to see every ending and test certain characters plus there's online while not perfect it is there to play and can be entertaining.

Overall Opinion

An excellent and fast paced fighting game that doesn't mess around with the formula to much and gives hardcore fans something new and fresh. It can be a steep learning curve for new players but anyone that loves their figters should definetly get this. Just don't take this game online seriously and you shall enjoy it alot.
