Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate Of Two Worlds

Usually when you think of nostalgia, you think of Pokemon cards, those awkward moments at band camp, and George Bush doing the stupidest of things at the stupidest times. But what about those times at the arcade, when mercilessly punching someone in a 2d experience was exhilarating? No I'm not talking about street fighter, I'm ranting about Marvel vs Capcom 2. a game that mixed the most kick-ass game characters and super heroes into one giant planet of awesomeness. And ten years since Marvel vs Capcom 2, they're at it again. With all the smooth and intense game-play that stimulated us as children.

Marvel vs Capcom 3 is a fresh remix of all the things that we love in a fighting game. The game-play stays the same, with a few new awesome ways to brawl. Most of the characters from the second game will not appear, but they have blessed us with new and more characters with more varied tactics. Characters from Devil May Cry and Resident Evil have made their way to the games list of combatants. The game has around 32 Marvel and Capcom characters to choose from, each with their own unique sets of moves and combos.

Like its predecessor, you will choose three characters to play as. During battle you can switch between characters at any time. Whose-ever three characters die first loses. The three round battles have been removed from the game to speed up the match process. And you can choose to be timed or not during battle. Fighting is nothing less then a work of martial art. You can use light, medium, or heavy moves. You can also use a combination of buttons to use unique attacks. You can dash, grab, and throw someone in mid air. But unlike its predecessor you can do aerial combat, which is my favorite thing about combat. After hurling your opponent into the air you can jump up and engage in intense aerial combat. After which you can do a downward swing sending your opponents back down to earth. There are so many different ways to beat the crap out of your opponent. It's like cyber bullying for kids! After inflicting enough damage on your foe, you will be given the honor of using a unique special attack. Which not only looks cool but also inflicts large amounts of damage. There is also a blocking feature to the game. The one problem with this game is that its not really keen on beginners. Its kind of like a teach yourself kind of game. It would've been cool to have an instructor like Doctor Xavier (X-men) teach you step by step on how to pick up the game's controls.

The arcade mode is as close as you'll get to a story mode. So there's this big pink dude named Galacticus who survives on eating worlds. But this time around he decides to eat "two worlds" at the same time ( hence the name of the game). This brings both the Marvel and Capcom characters to join forces to stop this pink menace. Your chosen team of three characters will then be pitted round after round of battles against other teams of three until you reach Galacticus. If you defeat him, the character you finish him off with will be given an ending which can be funny, awesome, or a dark cliff hanger.

The game's art style is also unique. Instead of a boring old fighting scene, the entire game is based in a comic book format. This works for the game mostly because the game itself feels like a 70s comic book already. For what it's worth the voice acting is also really clear. After finishing each battle, the character you finished the battle with will usually say a familiar quote from the comic book or game that they came from.

The online mode can be pretty technical for some. You enter a game lobby with a bunch of other players. One player is the king, and one by one people will fight the king and try to take his place as king. Winning will give you experience that will raise your renown online. The only problem is that this is the only online mode in the game. It would've been fun if there was a three on three tag team where each player can choose one character to play as. This will add up to a three on three tag team where a player can tag in another team member to take their place. For all the hype it was given before its release, a Marvel vs Capcom 3 online option doesn't live up to that it should be.

One problem with the game tho is the lack of extra content. Your play options are Arcade, Versus, Training, and Mission. A little something else would've been nice. But I guess you can just beat the Arcade mode with every character.

Conclusion: Marvel vs Capcom 3 is one of the best arcade fighting games to date. It and Super Smash Bros are two equals in their own ways. Its outstanding game mechanics and fun art-style make to a near perfect game of its genre. But the small amount of stuff to tinker with and the lack of solid tutorials scars Marvel Vs Capcom 3's score. It may not be a good party game, but if your in the mood for some inteanse one vs one battles with that self righteous prick in your math class or just want a fun fighting game to roll with, then this is the game for you.
