Having played all but Super Mario Kart, I can easily say that this is one of the best Mario Karts ever.
Firstly, I must talk about the gameplay. And of course, I have to mention the double kart. To be honest, when I first saw it, I thought Nintendo were taking a risk with such a new idea being applied. However, it worked brilliantly.
Combined with the Special weapons that vary depending on which character you pick, along with the variety of karts you are given, selecting players is a lot more tactical. Although this may cause unfair advantages in multiplayer, it is easy to make your characters count.
The Double Kart also allows for a new level of gameplay: Two players in the same kart. It has it's flaws, such as the back driver not really doing much apart from throwing weapons, resulting in a bit of boredom. But to be honest, I doubt much could've been done about that.
Nintendo lied when they said "Double the fun". For me, it's more like quadruple!
The graphics are amazing, in my opinion even better than Mario Kart DS. The Characters are very well designed.
Sound... though the character voices start to get a bit annoying after a while, the music is incredible.
But what makes this game truly awesome is the way in which I never get bored of it. I've spent a lot of time on this game and completed it fully. But even now it's a fun challenge to take on the Grand Prix. The Multiplayer also never gets old. My cousin visits yearly, and every year we turn on the Gamecube and play Mario Kart.
Though few, Double Dash does have it's flaws and improvements needed
For example, the lack of challenging courses. Not even Rainbow Road and Wario Colosseum challenged me, which was disappointing, though that may just be personal.
An improvement which could've been done was to make some sort of online play. I guarantee, if this had online play it would've been much more popular than Mario Kart Wii.
Overall score? 9.5 / 10 - Truly in it's own league, you won't see another Mario Kart like it. If you have a gamecube, you absolutely MUST get this!
