Double Dash brings something new to fans of the Mario Kart series, and is overall a memorable game for the GameCube.

This was one of those Gamecube games that was actually pretty good. I won't say this is the best Mario Kart, sure it has its flaws , but it is good, especially for a GameCube game.

The double carting was a unique idea, but a one time thing I'm glad to say. This made it especially fun for playing with or against other people. If one person didn't like to drive they can throw items at the other players, or even ram them. This made it work out as a team thing with 2 people in one cart. This was pretty cool because you could actually play a Grand Prix with 2 people, unlike some of the earlier Mario Karts.

There are only 4 cups however, but once beaten there is an option to play through all 16 tracks in 1 go, which is easily my favorite feature. It would have been cool if it were like the Gameboy Advance version where it has cups with tracks from previous Mario Karts as well as other bonus tracks. This would have been a great feature for the Gamecube version of the game.

Items are quite an annoying aspect of this game. Getting hit by items isn't as annoying as some of the other games, but that's not what I don't like. What I don't like is how the characters each have thier own "special" items. Some of them are even used as normal items in the other Mario Karts. The worst part yet is when you unlock Pirana Plant and King Boo, they get all of the specials, which really makes it unfair if you are using them afterwards or even if the computers are using it.

Otherwise this is a good game, but with short gameplay. It doesn't take long to get through everything. The controling is okay but can be kind of off,and the sliding is a little more difficult to master. 50cc and 100cc are quite easy, but 150cc and Mirror offer more of a challenge. Unfortunately their way of challenging you is by means of cheap AI. All opponents will ALWAYS target you with their items. This means that even if you are in fourth, the jackass in front of you will throw a red turtle shell or whatever they have behind them. It's really unfair and at times can kill the experience. Thankfully the multiplayer is fun with the few other game modes there are.

And overall Mario Kart: Double Dash is a unique and fun experience. Again it has its flaws, but you can't go wrong with this game if you are a fan of the series.
