Does RPG elements work with a golf simulator?

It's time for the Mario Golf Advance Tour Review! For the GBA.

I bought this game along with Toadstool Tour.(the game did not come with both, I just decided to buy both of them at the same time.) Let's see how it turned out.

In this game, Mario and friends aren't focused upon. Instead it's these two characters, Neil and Ella, who strive to become pro golfers. You have to go through the different tourneys along the land.

That's the story mode. Go through the different cups and win first place in each one. You can play either doubles or singles in the cups. Singles, you play alone and try to get first place. Doubles is the same thing, except you have your partner.

Along the way, there are minigames to play. Some involve battling the cup champs, some involve hitting the ball to land in a specific area, Go-Go Gates, where you have to hit the ball through the gates and get par. Lucky Slots, where you roll a slot machine and the clubs you hit are the ones you get to use(if you get three stars, you can use all of the clubs.) Playing these minigames gets you experience points.

The graphics were fine for this game. No complaints, after all, it was only a GBA game, our expectations for graphics weren't high at the time.

The controls were similar to Toadstool Tour. I'm still explaining. Press A to start the meter, then you have to hit the arrow where you want your shot. Hit the arrow with the A or B button. Press the A button to use an Auto shot. Then you have to get the sweet spot, and your shot is perfect. For manual, press B and you get the sweet spot again. Hit either A or B, or hit either one twice to get a topspin/backspin.

The story mode incorporates RPG elements. Yeah....does that really work for a golf game? For this, it does. You get experience points everytime you play a round of golf. You can order clubs from the shop. Anything can be done.

You can play multiplayer with a game link cable or a wireless adaptor(you can also do this to trade clubs)You don't need the cable, you can just pass the gameboy along, but do you really wanna do that?

You can also copy your clubs and your Neil and Ella to your Toadstool game. This means you can play as Neil and Ella on Mario Golf Toadstool Tour. When you play as them there, you gain experience points. Then you can transfer them to your Advance Tour game. It's a good way to earn experience.

Mario Golf Advance Tour is a great game. For a golf game, it's not boring when you place Mario. The only downside is that they could've focused on Mario more, but maybe that's me being picky. Also, you couldn't see the wind. It would help if you could see the wind so it's easier to line up your shot. There is also some terms you may not understand if you don't play golf, but there is a glossary, so that makes up for it.

This game gets a 8 out of 10 with the title of Great.
