Factoring in 1995 technology is not enough -- you have to remember that mac gamers had little to chose from.

Dear God, you have to feel bad for the early mac boys when you play this pale imitation of Doom. This was the cream of the crop for the mac crowd -- I am old enough to remember my friends showing it off, and the fake smile on my face resembed that which they gave me when I showed off Windows 3.1 (If that proves anything, it is that game play is what propelled windows and nothing else (ironically all game play was in DOS mode)).

Try this -- download the demo of Doom and compare it to this bucket-of-bits. Compare the games on map layout, game imersions, suspense, and AI. You'll find yourself wondering how Marathon ever sold a copy -- and your answer is in the preceding paragraph. There wasn't anything else at the time.
