One of the best puzzle games on any system, and the best puzzle game on the psp.
For a 2-D game, Lumines makes use of the psp's power very well. With the crisp and clear picture of the psp and the exellent graphics of Lumines, this psp launch title showed us how the psp can give nintendo some competition in the handheld gaming world.
The overall gameplay for Lumines is extremely simple and easy to learn in only a few minutes. Instead of having different shaped blocks, Lumines uses two different colours on one square. You have to match up all of the same colours together and then they will dissapear and you will points for however large of a connection you make. ( Back to the Tetris theme) The more points you get, the levels will start changing and the blocks will come at you faster. Eventually when the blocks get fast enough, they will slow down when the level changes again.
The game is not only a puzzle game, it can also be considered a rythm game because as you complete the levels, you get new songs that play. The music in the game is not specially licened music, it's music made for the game itself and there isn't many songs that you won't like in it.
There is also a vs mode in which you play against the computer to gain new profile pictures to use. Another game mode is using the coloured blocks to make pictures of animals and other things. One other interesting game is choosing a time limit and trying to get as many points as possible in that time limit. Later on you can play them again and try to beat your high score.
This game is a must have for any psp owner and if you do not have this game for your psp then I strongly recommend at least renting it first to get a good feel of how the game is played. You won't be dissapointed.
