If you like puzzle games and have never played Lumines, this is worth the money.

User Rating: 8.5 | Lumines Live! X360
Even though Lumines Live!! is known as being an expensive game, I've been playing it regularly for months now so my money was well spent. There's a few modes included in the base package (1200 points) with an option to purchase more, it's incomplete compared with Lumines II but it doesn't look like it's changing anytime soon so take that for what it's worth.

After the sticker shock what's left is a great puzzle game, created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Rez, Space Channel 5) and Q Entertainment (Meteos). It follows the rules of falling blocks/match colored blocks/don't overflow but has a unique core gameplay that holds up to numerous strategies and ties in closely with the music. As you play the game you move through different skins that can be turned into custom playlists. Each skin lasts at least a few minutes and changes the music, block style, background, speed and mood of the game. And the music is excellent, both the huge original soundtrack and the fact that gameplay accents and mixes whatever track is playing. Achievement points are all fair and add extra goals worth shooting for. Time Attack feels much more rewarding on the 360 than the PSP because of the achievements. Everything looks beautiful and hypnotic in HD. The skins are creative and detailed with backgrounds that are always pleasing, even as you hardly notice them. The entire presentation is very slick and overall it's the most impressive looking version of the game yet, and Lumines has always looked pretty good for a puzzle game.

You're not getting a whole lot for the money, as even after purchasing all the advance packs it doesn't amount to what you could get for $19.99 on PSP. There's one plus here in that they thankfully left out the music video skins in Lumines Live, which were pretty uneven and not exactly missed. But it's also extremely well made, and you'll want to return to improve technique and unlock all the content. If you don't have a PSP, are looking for a unique puzzle game and don't mind getting a little ripped off, Lumines Live! is a perfect Live Arcade purchase.

**EDIT** Now that the game has dropped in price to a more reasonable 800 points, I had to raise the score a bit to match the improved value. $10 for the base game and you can piecemeal the rest - it would cost around $36 for everything which isn't a terrible price considering how much Lumines content Q has put on the marketplace since release. Plus I'm still playing it to the very day, it's really one of the best Xbox Live Arcade purchases you can make.
