Lotus 2: A racing game that stood out

User Rating: 7.5 | Lotus II GEN
Looking back, Lotus 2 was a game of its time. It's hard to make racing games stand out, especially on a Sega Genesis, but the makers of Lotus 2 knew what had to be done. Too bad you can only pick from 3 different cars. Although, they are virtually the same to drive in the game, it's all based on the users preference. But to make up for the lack of car options, the game lets you create your own track.

What? Sega Genesis? Letting you create your own track?

Yeah. Basically.

You can effect hills, slopes, curves, distance, scenery, difficulty and more. Not to mention, there is mode of the game that allows you to "beat the game" should you win. This game was my probably my favorite racing game up until some good stuff came out for the PS One years later. I can definitely say having been spoiled by the likes of the PS3 and XBox 360, it would be difficult to pick up now for the first time and enjoy it. However, GameFly and other classic gaming forums have this game buried deep in a vault somewhere. I suggest for your 2D gaming pleasures to at least give it a whirl.
