Lotus 2: A racing game that stood out
What? Sega Genesis? Letting you create your own track?
Yeah. Basically.
You can effect hills, slopes, curves, distance, scenery, difficulty and more. Not to mention, there is mode of the game that allows you to "beat the game" should you win. This game was my probably my favorite racing game up until some good stuff came out for the PS One years later. I can definitely say having been spoiled by the likes of the PS3 and XBox 360, it would be difficult to pick up now for the first time and enjoy it. However, GameFly and other classic gaming forums have this game buried deep in a vault somewhere. I suggest for your 2D gaming pleasures to at least give it a whirl.
