Having created one of the best games ever like Lost Planet was, kind of makes you think that there will be an amazing sequel to come. That didn't happened with Lost Planet 2 and either the third.
In Lost Planet 3 the world is big, but only in visually and design. Looking through the horizon those icy peeks or freezing sky makes you think there is plenty to see, but as you continue to journey across the planet, you will feel like moving around a very big cave. The space of movement is limited and exploration is very unsatisfied.
The main character itself Peyton, is not appealing. In Lost Planet 3 they try to create a motive or a story line that lack the excitement or the curiosity to see what's coming next. Peyton does not make good relations with those around him and it's cold, kind of like the environment that surrounded him.
You don't see any improvement in the gameplay. As you play you find yourself making errands for others and never try to do something you want. The characters in Lost Planet 3 decide everything for you. Side missions are a bother. To do them you need to find new areas but that's not the case. New areas are easy to find but moving around the planet is exhausting even if you use the fast travel system. In any case doing this missions doesn't make you feel fulfilled or makes any different in your appearance or story line.
The rig is another thing. Remember the first rig in Lost Planet? When you were using them and fighting akrid or another rig, makes you feel like you were in those Jaegers of Pacific Rim. The new rig in Lost Planet 3 is slow, doesn't have weapons and lacks the design to satisfy your eyes.
Akrid weren't so scary I give you that, but making them like puppy? There aren't much species and shot them in the red spots is easy and annoying.
Lost Planet has a good environment plenty of akrid to work on and verity of story to chose now, but it will take a lot of work to come back strong again and satisfy the fans like the first one was doing.
