After a slow start Lost Odyssey picks up a bit, but not enough for it to stand out amongst other games

User Rating: 7 | Lost Odyssey X360

+ Traditional turn based action

Negatives
- Slow and dull start
- Some parts of the game drag on a bit with boring puzzles

Lost Odyssey is a traditional RPG that has attempted to move the genre into the next gen, in some way it suceeds but in others it fails due to minor problems.

First of it looks great, cut scenes are stunning and enviroments are varied as well as interesting.
You'll explore forests, cities, beaches, caves and many more locations during the adventure.
The enviroments took me back to classic RPG's, but in a way that felt very next gen which was great, it has aspects from classics such as final fantasy and it has a similar feel sometimes.

Music is another credit to the game, it sounds great most of the time, even when attempting a repetetive puzzle it's not unbeareble.
Voice acting is also pretty good, you have the option to have it in several languages, I preffered having Japanese voices with English subtitles, as they're probably the best.

So, what's the game all about? well you play the role of Kaim, an immortal- meaning he can never die of old age.
We follow his quest collect memories but whilst doing see you get caught up in a war.
Your commanded to go and investegate an area called 'grand staff' it produces power and energy using powerful magic.
Very similar to when in final fanytasy VII they use Mako to produce energy.

The story has its ups and downs, you meet freinds and even other immortals and they join you.
Some people seem to have enjoyed the story more than I did, it's hard to explain without giving spoilers.

Combat as I've mentioned, traditional turn based with a twist in which you use 'rings' which can be forged with loot that drops from monsters.
You have to use the rings to your advantage, for example if your fighting fire enemies it would be easier if you were to find, buy or make some rings that make your attacks of the water or ice element.

Even random encounters can be hard in the game, it's quite a hard game on the whole.
Bosses are especially hard and I had to resort to online walkthroughs and stratergies, you can only grind/train to much making stratergy essentiel altough it may mean attempting one boss several times before you deafet him.

But, if your looking for a solid traditional turn based RPG and don't mind a slow start Lost Odyssey will probably suit you.
It does have a fresh feel about it and I conclude it's a good game, but dosen't stand out from the crowd.
