An under-appreciated RPG series, worth a rent, pick up used or in your local bargain bin if you can find it.

This was one of the very first and few RPG's the gamecube had when it came out and it was not by any means a bad game but it wasn't a "must buy". It's a decent all around game if you can get into the fighting system which is based around cards that turn into monsters once they hit the ground and fight for you but if you dont like the fighting system there's little else in the way of entertainment or story in this game. This game is a "pure" game in that its stripped down to just the game mechanics and the graphics and story are just there to pull in people who otherwise wouldn't "get the game for its gameplay". This is a game for people who play games for gameplay and the game mechanics and not for newer gamers who's only major concerns are graphics and story, with the gameplay and battle system being the last and least thing to worry about. The game is good but not great, it's got an oldschool feel to it but it doesn't try to push the genre forward. What is in the game is done alright but it's standard run of the mill RPG stuff that's been countless times before. The game gets better as you progress but after your first time through the game, that's it. It's a one shot wonder and you wont find your self picking it up later after beating it. The game is definitely worth a rent and a play through though. Over-all its a thumbs up if you dont go in expecting a story and cinematic experience, it sticks by older RPG conventions and executes them fairly well. It's a pure RPG that revolves around the battle and card system. Lost kingdoms 2 is a better game over-all but then again it is the sequel to this game and they got to refine and enhance everything that was missed in this games first outting.
