completly different from the first (Long reveiw)

Lost Kingdoms 2 takes the tradition of the first where the main character uses cards to use magic spells or summon powerful monsters. Unlike the first, battles do not pop up at random and you have the ability to summon creatures in whatever level your in that includes monsters. The monsters are scattered throughout each level roaming around and attack when you’re close by. What’s great about the game is that there’s the ability to go back to levels that were completed before. Sometimes a certain place in that level can only be reached with a card found later on; this is one way to find more rare cards.

The character you play as is a women named Tara traveling with a group of thieves known as ‘Band of Scorpion’. The story is a bit stale, taking place 200 years after the first. But still the same to the point where it’s just moving from level to level with not a whole lot of conversation involved. Every so often there will be a level that includes a cinematic which gets involved with the story.

Like the first, the cards gain experience that can be used to create even more powerful monsters/spells that are put in the deck. The deck can only have up to 30 cards, it is better to have weak and powerful cards because each card sucks up Tara’s MP, when that happens, it begins to eat up Tara’s HP, and this could easily lead to a game over. Instead of collecting rune stones to gain levels, you gain them by summoning cards and battling monsters. When compared to the first, it’s a lot more interesting seeing what new monsters were added, and their abilities. This game has a hundred more cards; it’s a lot considering it can be hard to get some new ones as well, even when it comes to upgrading. Another added element is the fact that the character can use cards to become monsters, some of the monsters ability’s have changed. Transforming into these monsters will allow you to get to a place you could not go to before, when it comes to flying or destroying boulders which block a path. When comparing the first to the second, the developers did improve it to a great extent. They made it easier, and added towns to explore as well as side quest. Those were not a part of the previous game.

Monsters also take the role of different elements like, water, fire, wood… etc. It’s best to create multiple decks, using one for each element. So going into battle in a certain level under and element like fire, Tara should have a water deck equipped. Monsters can also be caught using capture cards; however it’s highly unlikely to capture boss monsters and it involves weakening a monster first. A capture card can be used again if it fail to catch the monster is currently being used on.

Concluding, anyone into RPG’s will probably enjoy it, but it’s highly recommended that you rent it first. This game can be beaten in 12 hours when played from start to finish. With two alternate endings as well depending on the events that go on during the gameplay.
