Since 97 and still fun to play it today.

First of all, i don't try to build expectations for a game that i didn't played, since raising them to high and more often than not, you will come exasperated from the experience.Lords of Magic is a type of game with its own problems, its system is unstable, once in a while you will have a crash, its history draws your attention and it could have more things, but its good enough and if you have it since 97 its probable that you have play it more than one time.
Despite those problems i have found for its age a very good game, the AI its not so easy, and if you think it will be a walk in the garden, you might find yourself loosing the war not the battle.
Plus its not like some games with diplomacy, in which all the other factions become united against you to boost the difficulty, in this game you will have the possibility of even hostile factions toward you become your allies or vice-versa.
The fact that for managing your city(s) you have to have units inside them its not so second planned like that, since rebels roam the map in search of buildings to loot and destroy, not to mention other factions that given the opportunity will not think twice in occupying your city(s) so its almost a basic need to have some units to defend it.
The battles are good enough if you are the type that likes to control everything in the battlefield,if not… some of your units might get stuck during their travel from point A to B, and that is good as a death signal to the AI.The control of mines and other resources make a important point in the campaign, without resources no troops; no troops no victory.
The graphics are not that bad for its age, but the crashes are, and that takes much out of the game.
Sound,Good enough for this type of game.Very well picked.
My advice leave the original behind and get the Special edition that as already taken care of some problems.
