Next time consider an expansion pack.

Who doesn't like shooting zombies?

With a game that gives you that option, it is hard to consider it tanking. In fact, I still remember a zombie game for the Sega called "Zombies Ate My Neighbors" (I think) where you would shoot zombies with your squirt gun that was more fun than it should have been.

So, does this zombie thriller disappoint? Somewhat. Don't get me wrong, it is still a great game for what it aims to accomplish, however after promising weapon packs for LFD2's predecessor, this game feels like more of an expansion than anything.

AI...We don't need no freakin' AI...
----------------------------------------------------------

Like the other LFD, this one is going to be more fun if you have some buddies to tag up with. The friendly AI in this game is bad. (How bad isssss it?). The friendly AI in this game is so bad that I would rather have Dick Cheney watching my back than the computer players.

For example, if you saw your friend getting eaten alive by zombies, what would you do? Would you shoot the zombies? Noooo, that would be stupid. Instead, you would probably try to help him up while the zombies continued to mall him right?

This and other stupid AI instances made it impossible to tolerate without the help of other humans. Which, of course, this game is made for the multiplayer, but your buddies aren't always accessible, and thus once in a while you need some support of PC players. The friendly AI they give you is better used as a zombie snack diversion than as a viable ally.

Brutal is good
----------------------------------------------------------

I am an oldschool gamer. As such, I like a challenge. Put this game on its hardest difficulty level and clear your schedule, as you will be playing it for a while.

When I first got this game, me and a buddy instantly put it on expert and played it co op. We then subsequently spent 2 days trying to get past the second part of the first campaign (read: see above section on how cruddy the two computer partners we had were). We eventually did beat a campaign on expert...and when we did the achievement we felt was phenomenal.

Cheap Shots
----------------------------------------------------------

Although it wasn't THAT big of a problem, this game relies heavily on cheap shots. "Brainless" zombies always try to run in back of you, as they obviously know that it makes them more dangerous.

The worst cheap part of this game was not being able to run while being hit. Again, I understand why they do it, but would valid collision detection been that bad of an option? If I got hit in the back by a zombie, it would only force me to run faster, if anything because of the fricking force, let alone the adrenaline push of being slashed in the back.

Ultimo's Verdict
-----------------------------------------------------------

Well, not much more to say about this one. It looks good, it controls well, and it provides a challenge. The story was better this time, as it at least attempted to be continuous, and it provides new features (although limited, and felt like more of an expansion).

Survey says:

Solid game, but not worth anything over 40 bucks. Rent or pick it up when the price drops a bit.
